Crowns
A tooth may require a crown for several reasons. Some of those are:
- Fractured tooth or cracked tooth
- Large restoration
- A tooth with a root canal
Large amalgams (silver fillings) can weaken teeth with time, causing the
teeth to crack or break. A crown, also
referred to as a dental cap, is used to entirely cover a damaged tooth. A crown not only strengthens a tooth, but it
can dramatically improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, function, and alignment. Crowns
can be made of many materials including gold, porcelain fused to metal, and
porcelain fused to zirconia.
